You DO NOT need a DSLR camera or a studio to shoot professional pictures! I repeat you don't need any of these when starting out. Keep reading to see how I was able to take this photo!
EQUIPMENT NEEDED
Camera (You can use your cell phone's camera!)
Lights (I used a light-box for $15)
Posterboard
Any props to elevate the photo(optional)
Free editing apps
Camera:
Although mirrorless and DSLR cameras will give you the best quality pictures, your cell phone is capable of taking many great photos at your own convenience. Some images that I have taken for Buom Line were shot on my iPhone XR. Usually, you will have to look at your camera's settings to change it to the best settings. For example, iPhone XR's are able to shoot 4k videos at 60fps, but the default setting will be set to 1080p at 40fps.
Lights:
One thing that costs you $0 is natural lighting which offers the best quality. If being outdoors is not an option, I recommend either investing in a ring light or a lightbox. A lightbox is a very inexpensive way to take photos of your products, although I do not recommend it if your product is larger than a ketchup bottle. See the video below to see how I was able to take my photos!
Posterboards:
Do you remember the posterboards you would use for your science fair poster? These poster boards work just as great to create flat lays for your products!
Props:
Sometimes taking pictures of just your product can be boring. That's why it's important to use props to bring detail and attention to the pictures. In the picture above, I bought some chiffon cut-out butterflies to add more of a joyous feel to our products.
Free Editing Apps:
To ensure that your pictures come out great, you will need to edit them. There are many free editing apps that I recommend such as VSCO, Photoshop Fix, and Lightroom. Even though you have the best lighting, it is important to edit the warmth, shadows, light, etc to make your photos look it's best.
Hope these tips help!
